It is a popular coaching exercise - a very short, simple but highly effective tool for looking at the areas of which your life is made up and how you can integrate each of these areas. Essentially, we are talking about life balance here. However, a much respected coach and mentor, Ginny Baillie, uses the word integrating instead, and so I have adopted her language. Ginny pointed out that balance has connotations of difficulty imagine trying to stand on one leg and you wont be feeling happy and relaxed! Language is a powerful tool that can help us or hinder us in our lives, so with a nod of respect to the power of language, lets talk integration! Have a go, and prepare to be enlightened. Now label the wheel with the eight most aspects or areas of your life. Here are some examples to start you thinking, but remember, its your life and the eight areas are entirely your choice: Work Personal growth Friends & family, Partner or significant other, Financial Physical environment, Play and fun Health & fitness Social life Happiness Score those particular areas of your life, where 10 are on the outside of the circle and 1 is in the middle. Mark along each radius or spoke of the wheel 10 equal divisions, from 1 in the centre to 10 on the circumference (1 is where you are least satisfied and 10 is totally satisfied). If you were very satisfied with an aspect of your life it would be 10 and if you were totally dissatisfied, it would be a 1. Score each area out of 10. Your wheel might look like this:  4. Look at your wheel and identify the area that is the main priority for you, the one that is giving you the most worry or the one that you want to change the most. 5. Imagine you are in a place a year from now and have scored this area of your life with a 10. What does 10 look like to you? What would have needed to have happened for you to be happy with your progress?For your priority area, what could you do to increase the score by just one point for this aspect of your life? Set your stopwatch and give yourself two minutes to write down as many options as possible. But aim for at least five options. Go away and make yourself a cup of tea, go for a walk round the block, stare out of the window or weed your borders. Come back in about 10 minutes. Welcome back! Now youve had a little time for your subconscious to work, its time to choose one option. Write it down. Some questions for you to ask yourself. How are you going to commit to this option? How will you make yourself accountable? Do you need a friend or a partner to support you? What do you need in order to carry out the action/s? Write down what you need or who you need to help you to make it happen. Now do what you need to do to ensure that you will carry out youre action/s.
